Born in South Africa and has practised cardiology for more than 3 decades.
He is an Interventional cardiologist with extensive clinical experience. He pioneered many new modalities in his country including the first coronary stent; first drug eluting stent and used the TANDEM heart as first in man in 2000.
Currently has a very busy private practice performing many coronary interventions and pacemakers. He is involved in many cath lab trials and registries involving investigation and treatment of new products.
Head of a heart transplant and LVAD unit at Milpark Hospital performing 20 transplants and 10 LVADS per year.
Faculty member of numerous local and international congresses, including ICI, PCR, TCT, Africa PCR and Crossroads.
Serves on many advisory boards of Internationale and drug companies.
He is married to Penny Cassel and has 4 children; one step-son and 5 grandchildren.
