Andrew Zimmerman MD, is the founder of the Complex Care Team, and the former Medical Director for Complex Care at Oscar Health Insurance. He currently works as a Telehealth physician, and as a consultant for Telehealth and Complex Care strategy.
Dr. Zimmerman received his MD from the New York University School of Medicine, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. He is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Zimmerman served as an Attending Hospitalist Physician at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. After several years of clinical experience, Dr. Zimmerman witnessed how poor access to care significantly impacts patient health and utilization, and saw telemedicine’s potential to address this issue. He was one of the founding physicians of the Telemedicine Division at Oscar Health Insurance. He developed protocols and systems to streamline online care, and continues to work as a Virtual Physician on the telemedicine team.
Having worked in hospitals and seeing the same complex patients re-admitted, Dr. Zimmerman felt strongly that there must be a better way. Eighteen months ago, he found the Complex Care Team at Oscar Insurance, and was the Medical Director for Complex Care. He lead a multidisciplinary Case Management Team across a variety of markets. The team supported the care of Oscar’s highest risk members. Through a variety of innovative methods and technologies, the team was able to significantly improve the care trajectory of these patients. As Medical Director, he was responsible for growing the program and ensuring that quality and excellent evidence based care is achieved. The team has had a tremendous impact on members’ health, and has influenced the overall case management strategy of the company.
